Spring storms have a way of showing up fast. One minute it’s calm… the next the wind picks up, the sky turns, and you’re wishing you had taken five minutes to get ahead of it.
The good news? It doesn’t take much. A little preparation now keeps things simple later—and that’s always the goal.
Here’s what I like to have covered before a storm rolls through.
Pepper’s No-Panic Spring Storm Prep List
1 – Charge your devices.
Phone, flashlight, anything you rely on. Don’t wait until the lights flicker.
2 – Check your flashlights.
And make sure you know where they are. (That part matters more than you’d think.)
3 – Have extra batteries ready.
Keep them in one place so you’re not searching in the dark.
4 – Bring in or secure outdoor items.
Chairs, planters, anything the wind might toss around.
5 – Do a quick fridge check.
Make sure it’s closed tight and not overpacked—you want it to stay cold as long as possible if the power goes out.
6 – Fill a few water bottles.
Simple and easy. You’ll be glad you did.
7 – Keep a few easy meals on hand.
Nothing complicated—just something you can grab without needing power.
8 – Set out a blanket or two.
Not because you expect the worst, but because it’s easier to have it ready than go looking later.
9 – Check your windows and doors.
A quick walk-through can save you from dealing with drafts or leaks.
10 – Know where your essentials are.
Keys, shoes, flashlight—keep them where you can reach them without thinking.
Storms don’t have to turn everything upside down. Most of the time, it’s the little things that make the biggest difference. A few minutes of preparation… and you’re not reacting—you’re ready.
Mo usually knows something’s coming before I do. Roxie, on the other hand, sleeps right through it unless thunder decides to get dramatic. I like to be somewhere in the middle—aware, but not worried.
Pepper’s Prep Tip: Preparation isn’t about expecting the worst. It’s about making sure the small things don’t turn into big problems.
Stay prepped and prepared,
Pepper
