Whew! Summer has certainly turned up the thermostat!
When temperatures soar, it’s tempting to power through your normal routine, but a little planning can help you stay safe and comfortable until cooler weather returns.
Quick Heat Wave Checklist
1 – Hydrate throughout the day.
2 – Limit strenuous outdoor activities.
3 – Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose clothing.
4 – Keep blinds and curtains closed, especially the ones that get the most sun.
5 – Avoid using your oven or stove.
6 – Plan for cookless meals.
7 – Take cool showers.
8 – Use sunscreen and wear a hat outdoors.
9 – Check on elderly neighbors, friends, and family.
10 – Keep pets supplied with fresh, cool water and shade.
11 – Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle—not even for a minute.
12 – Unplug electronics you’re not using. They can generate unnecessary heat inside your home.
Pepper’s Prepper Tip
Keep a few washcloths dampened with water in a zip-top bag in the refrigerator. On a hot day, a cool cloth on the back of your neck or wrist is a quick and refreshing way to cool down.
Until next time… stay prepped & prepared
