5 Things To Freeze This Summer So You Don’t Regret It Later!

BookBrushImage 2025 6 24 23 022A well-stocked freezer isn’t just for storing leftovers—it’s a quiet form of self-reliance. When the power goes out, the grocery store runs low, or you just need to stay cool and prepared, your freezer can be a silent hero.

Summer adds another layer to preparedness: heat, humidity, and the unexpected (which seems to show up more often than not). Here are five simple, smart things I keep in my freezer all summer long—and why you might want to as well.

Damp Bandanas or Washcloths

Roll them up, dampen them with water (add a drop of lavender or peppermint oil if you’d like), and freeze. When the temperature spikes or someone shows signs of overheating, these become instant cooling wraps for your neck, wrists, or forehead. Fast relief. No batteries required.

Frozen Water Bottles

Double-duty prepping. Frozen bottles keep your cooler cold without the mess of melting ice, and when they thaw, you’ve got cold drinking water. I keep a few stashed in the freezer year-round—especially handy during storm season.

Quick-Energy Snacks

Homemade smoothie packs, protein bites, or even pre-cut fruit like grapes, bananas, or berries freeze beautifully. Great for energy boosts on hot days or when you need something nutritious that won’t spoil in the heat. Plus, they make excellent additions to emergency kits.

First Aid Ice Packs (DIY-Style)

Gel packs are nice, but if you’re out, you can make your own with rubbing alcohol and water in a zippered freezer bag (two parts water to one part alcohol works well). Flexible, reusable, and ideal for bumps, bruises, or twisted ankles during those “I thought I could jump that log” moments.

Backups of the Basics

Butter, cheese, tortillas, bread—things that get used quickly or spoil fast. In the summer, food can go bad faster than you expect if the power blinks or the fridge is overworked. Having frozen backups means no last-minute store runs when it’s 90 degrees and everyone’s cranky.

Your freezer isn’t just a box of cold—it’s peace of mind. A little time spent prepping today can make all the difference tomorrow. And if you freeze a treat or two just because? That’s not only allowed—it’s encouraged.

Stay prepped and prepared,

Pepper
