Things I Check Every March

ChatGPT Image Feb 16 2026 06 08 51 AMMarch is not a settling month. It shifts. It gusts. It teases. It surprises. Which is exactly why I have a short list of things I check every March — not because something is wrong, but because this is the month when small things can turn into bigger ones if you’re not paying attention.

Winter has done its work. Now it’s time to see what needs a little attention before spring fully steps in. I don’t overhaul everything. I just walk through this list.

Pepper’s March Check List

1 – Check gutters and downspouts for winter debris or ice damage

2 – Inspect outdoor walkways for cracks or shifting from freeze-thaw cycles

3 – Test flashlights and replace batteries if needed

4 – Check weather radio and emergency supplies

5 – Refresh the vehicle emergency kit (especially after heavy winter use)

6 – Look over garden tools and outdoor equipment

7 – Rotate pantry items that were pushed to the back during winter cooking

8 – Check rain gear and boots for wear before spring storms arrive

It’s nothing dramatic. No panic. No rush.

March is about prevention. Snow melts. Ice shifts. Wind rattles things loose. A few small checks now can save frustration later.

I also take a moment to notice what winter taught me:

1 – Which supplies ran lower than expected.

2 – What I reached for most often.

3 – What I never touched

4 – Whether the car kit proved useful

5 – If batteries or backup lighting need adjusting

6 – Where routines worked — and where they didn’t.

Preparedness isn’t just about stocking up. It’s about paying attention and adjusting quietly.

March may feel unpredictable, but that doesn’t mean we have to be. A little attention goes a long way.

Stay prepped and prepared,

Pepper
